A little indigo mouse had a quite busy day. After deleting stupid Fallout: New Vegas, it installed Fallout 1 and Fallout 1 Fixt mod. It has spent 3 hours editing critical head tables, for example making the smallest head critical hit 4x and smallest torso critical hit 3x damage.

Little indigo mouse spent about two hours testing the game.

Unfortunately it didn’t have much influence on the game because most of weapons are low damage, so it’s still hard to kill people with critical headshots.

The mouse tried to edit weapons but it seems it doesn’t have right editors for it/preparing them for work requires a lot of time.

The mouse also has an older mod for Fallout but for some reason some special characters in it recently became glitched :( .

A little indigo mouse has spent a large part of the ;previous day modifying weapons for Fallout 1 using an ancient editor. It made a spreadsheet with damage ranges and average damages and then used damage ranges and average damages to calculate average damages for new weapon damages. The little mouse forgot to give this character a name because it was just a test to see if the critical hit tables work as they should.

About half of the game was played with original weapons and halfway, the mouse has changed the weapon stats because many characters were way too tough and enduring multiple critical hits to the head with firearms.

The changes made critical hits very brutal without making people too easy to kill with ordinary hits.

For example, 10mm pistol gives 9-17 damage which gives average damage of 13. With 4x critical hit in the head, it’s 36-68. With a 5x critical hit, it’s 45-85, with final critical hit modifier for head, 6x it’s 54-102.

In vanilla game:

10mm pistol gives 5-12 damage which gives average damage of 8,5. With 2x critical hit in the head, it’s 10-24. With a 2,5x critical hit, it’s 12,5-30, with final critical hit modifier for head, 3x it’s 15-36.

It makes killing a normal character with a headshot that scores a critical hit very difficult.

Mouse’s version is inspired by GURPS (which was initially a system that Fallout was to be based on, but sadly they had some differences of opinion regarding censorship or something and Fallout lost the license and ended up with a half-baked system.) that has 4x damage modifier for hitting brain and 3x modifier for hitting vitals. So, a critical hit on head or torso is treated as a hit in brain or vitals. Then there are further degrees of critical hits, where the damage can be even higher.

(this is probably a 3rd critical hit entry that gives 5x damage with the damage roll being 15)

The little indigo mouse is very satisfied with its work.

The mouse had a very long pause in modding/playing Fallout, since it moved to Linux in 2009 and it turned out that Fallout doesn’t work well on Wine.

But it now found a way to play it fluidly without horrible slowdowns and with a nice 2x scaling mode - the new version of high resolution patch and some tweaking of configuration that correctly turned on the 2x scaling mode.

The game is very engaging and the mouse has found itself to have severe difficulties making pauses from playing it and dong other things. It’s very weird to play a cRPG game again.

Another thing is that after verifying that critical hit tables work, the mouse has modified most of in-game weapons in Fallout2 mapper and decreased action point costs for firing.
